WHERE TO BUY ROPE
I am constantly asked where I got my rope from. I bought mine from the manufacturer Whittam Ropes in Melbourne Australia. You need an Australian Business Number to purchase from them. You can also get halter rope and paracord from cams cords in Brisbane. I have put some links to other places below as well, since most of my enquiries come from other countries.

Hi Carol – I’m looking for an activity for our group WOW – Woman of Waterloo, I think the rope nose bands will suffice, don’t want to get into the who halter thing yet lol. What size of paracord are using for weaving the noseband contrast? I see there are some cords called “gutted” I’m a newbie. I’m guessing it is the 550 para???Its is much smaller than your halter cord, so I was confused. Thank you in advance.

I guess I understand the 550, but there seems to be different diameter as well. I see a lot of 4mm, seems pretty small, what is the norm for doing decorative nosebands?

G’day Lisa, the standard 550 paracord is around about 4mm i think. I use 6mm halter rope, and the 550 paracord over the top of the noseband. I have sometimes used 3mm paracord which is also called macrame cord, but 99% of the time I use 550 paracord for all my noseband patterns over the top of the rope halters. There is no set rule, just experiment and see what you prefer the look of really.

I make halters, however I struggle with twists on a 4 knot nose band. Would you possibly be able to help me determine what I am doing wrong. I would be glad to pay for your time.

Hi Carol, I’ve not ever made a 4 knot noseband, but that shouldn’t make any difference really to a two knot. where is the twist? I often get some twisting around the fiadore knot, and just try to adjust a bit to compensate. it’s a really hard thing to explain in writing! Maybe just keep straightening out the rope as you go along? sorry as I’m not exactly sure where you are having the twist.
