There are so many different styles of dog collar you can make with paracord. Adjustable, fixed, semi adjustable, micro, macro, the list goes on. These are great fun to make, and make great gifts. You can get a wide variety of paracord colours and sizes, including 550 paracord, 425 macrame cord, micro 2mm, and micro 1mm. The colours are endless, and you can mix and match. Depending on the size of your dog you can get large adjustable buckles, or side clip buckles for a more slimline look and fit. Be sure to use good quality cord and fittings, it’s worth it in the long run. If you are looking for supplies in Australia, be sure to check out Cams Cords. If you decide to make lots of collars, it helps to have some sort of jig to hold your work in place. There are commercial jigs, but you can also make a simple one by hammering nails into a piece of wood and tying your work to the nails with a piece of cord. I have a very handy hubby who made me one from an old bar clamp he had. He turned the end around giving me more length, and drilled some holes and fitted some screws in either end to attach my cords to so I could easily adjust the length of the collar. You can see in the picture below: I have many youtube videos with dog collars too (scroll to bottom of page).

I buy most of my cord and buckles from here, it is a great Aussie shop in QLD.
For ‘D’ rings and ‘o’rings I get most of mine from Vardham threads in Euroa (North east Victoria, Australia), and they also sell them on ebay. I’ve been to their shop in Euroa, they have really good quality stuff.

G’day Elias, no i don’t sorry. But you can set up the cords in a plastic buckle in a similar fashion to the non-adjustable collars with the rings at either end.

Good day! I love your patterns. I would love to make some collars for my 7 to 10 kg dogs. Would you recommend 550 or a smaller paracord? Thanks for making the videos and help.

G’day Moni, i think it depends on how many strands wide the collar is. the really wide ones would be better with 2mm cord, but the simple plaited one with 550 cord would suit any small dog. You often see some nice bracelet patterns that would suit the little doggies too. All the best🦄💕🐴

I was wondering what lengths of corse you used for the beaded zig zag collar. I love your YouTube channel and have made a few of the collars. Now I’m looking to make this one but don’t quite know how much cord I need.

Hi, found your videos when I Binged paracord dog collars. They are great as are your donkey pictures. My question is about your Modified Sanctified diamond pattern. Do you pull the knots tight as you do on the cobra or are they loose?

Hi Jenny, thanks for the kind words! You will find when you tighten up the cords on the diamond pattern, you need to be quite firm, but not extreme. if you turn the collar over, you will see that if you go too tight it bunches up the cords and they are not side by side but they should be. All the best with it!

Love your videos. Which collar do you recommend for a fairly new knotter?

hi Deborah, thanks for the kind words. If you already know how to do a basic cobra weave and want to try something a little bit more fancy but not too tricky, i’d have a go at the modified sanctified centre chain, here’s the link:https://youtu.be/cYPk93kkK_k It’s quite easy and looks nice. But if you are a complete beginner i’d try a cobra weave. I don’t have a video for that, but there are heaps on youtube, then you can work your way up to something a bit more fancy. All the best!
